A proud Boricua, Margarita was raised by her grandparents in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She recently completed her first novel, A Delicate Marriage, available for purchase October 10, 2023.
A desire to experience snow landed her at Boston University, where she majored in public relations. She subsequently enjoyed a 25-year career in journalism and marketing communications writing for PC Week (now eWeek) and working for such brands as Avon, Frito-Lay, and Dunkin Donuts. She later transitioned into writing creative non-fiction, focusing on crafting memoir and parenting essays.
A Delicate Marriage was born during the competitive Novel Generator program at Boston’s Grub Street, and led to a writer’s residency at the prestigious Noepe Center for Literary Arts on Martha’s Vineyard.
Margarita’s Puerto Rican roots and values fully inform every piece of who she is and every role she plays in life—woman, mother, wife, writer, friend, mentor, relative. She considers herself Puerto Rican first, everything else second. Every day, in some way, she’s reminded of how little Americans know about this U.S. territory, and makes it her mission to educate others about her island home. Such was the impetus for her first novel.
